I was born in Kavala by parents who were natives of Asia Minor. I spent my childhood years at Limenaria of Thasos and when I was in the third class of primary school we went to Athens. The sea was gone, my childhood friends vanished, the people I loved so much were far from me... Athens cold and big, full of people unknown, lights, asphalted road and cars. I missed the salt of the sea and its azure, the caiques plying the open sea. I grew up in Athens, I lived there and I loved it. The high school in Nea Ionia and the University in Italy. As a university student I discovered rebetika songs and I loved Markos Vamvakaris. Love-affairs, affections, refugee events, Tsiforos, Kazantzakis, Markos, university students’ movement, with the heart and the thought travelling everyday in everything I loved... I started playing the bouzouki and everything I experienced in life, everything I imagined, everything brought by the daybreak and by the night coming on, everything that smiled and everything that grew dark in my life, wherever I was travelled by the heart, it became song one day... Many times I am thinking that I wrote nothing, that everything was born by itself, simply because it was born. In such a way I was born. Few years ago I went back to my village which was coming in my dreams for a long time past, one time like a sea-bird, another time like light fast sailing-boat, another time like basil in a house next to the sea. I cannot find words to thank Antonakis and the members of “Dromos”, who came along me in that journey that waited for so long. (I cannot find words to thank) Noe who took “my stony dreams” and bring them back to me like statues, Grigoris, Kostas, Thodoris, Sofia, Natasa, Aliki, Giorgos Kariotis. Their music wind that makes us walk in the open sea. To my father! And to everything I loved! Nikos Argiropoulos Tracks 01. Your dark eyes (2:54) 02. What I suffered in your hands (3:05) 03.
